I think $5 a day should suffice:

eggs cost about 10 cents

Breakfast= 3 scrambled eggs, 2 sices of toast, some potato product= $1

Lunch= Something like Bolagna sandwich and a bruised apple=$1.50

Dinner= something like prison meatloaf, old fruit, mac+cheese, milk= $2.50

$5 total

I bet it costs 5X that !

My brother is a radical, thinks prisons should turn a profit ! I say that would put unfair competion to legit businesses.

It would be tough on the local painting contractor to compete with prison labor rates, or whatever my bro would have prisoners do.

Prisoners should be forced into the vegetarian lifestyle.
There is no way $5 covers food costs per day. I think it is probable twice that. Like the part about the bruised apple. Toss in a brown banana to boot.

On one hand I can understand making prisons for profit. But on the other hand I can see more reasons to not make prisons for profit, namely it gives an incentive to put more people behind bars. Like I really want the coppers filling another quota.

Has your brother ever seen that movie with Tom Sellick where he gets set up by crooked cops for drugs and sent away? Yeah, it's hollyweird, but shyte like that happens everyday.

Prisons aren't suppossed to make a profit, I'm sure none do !

My take is the guys in prison complete their time, get released, make them employeable, teach them a skill, educate them to HS level, something like that

Bro's thought that prisons break even is absurd, maybe not chew up too much tax money, but they must operate at a deficit.

If all other costs are placed in there, like electricity , gas etc... just pure food is needed, free stove, grill, etc.

A human being can easily be fed a a nutriotious diet on $5 a day, given no costs beyond the food cost, easy as pie ! No other bills $5 a person a day for food is not starvationn, just not luxury.

$5 day should feed a prisoner if done right

$35 week

I wouldn't starve on $35 a week food allowance, if provided refrigeration and stove, I could get by on $35 week for food, but tight !

In Michigan, the inmates have to pay roughly $35/day.

When factoring costs, don't forget insurance. This is a big one.

There are private prison that do make a profit. As a matter of fact, many of the newer prisons that are being built today are by private, for-profit contractors.
